Ramadhan (Iftar) Food distribution to 175 vulnerable households in Karsamale IDPs of Boreana zone of Oromia region.

Food accessibility in the respective IDPs has been a major challenges and considered the most urgent unmet need by IDPs in Karsamale IDPs of Liban woreda affected by the conflict and drought that leads hunger and displacements. RAPID and DRM Offices managed to mobolized the communities and registered 175 households in Karsamale IDPs for in kind food distribution for the month of ramadhan. Beneficiaries registration was done with help of religious leaders, relief committtes, IDPs focal persons and registered the most vulnerable households. The beneficiaries were informed about the importance of in kind food distribution for the month of Ramadhan with regards to the planned food distribution, the beneficiaries were also informed about the quantity they will receive as per recommendation from the respective authorities and beneficiaries was very interesting and they requested similar activities in future.

In order to improve household purchasing power to food access accessibility from the local shops and subsequently improve their nutritional intake, RAPID staffs carried out capacity assessment prior to the actual food distribution, the aim of the assessment was to evaluate the food suppliers in our target areas whether indeed they possess the capacity to deliver the planned food voucher distribution, during the assessment RAPID staffs had their own checklist as a tool therefore different shops were visited during the course of capacity assessment, the main evaluation included but not limited to variety of commodities, the stoke capacity, his/her business reliability, linkages with other suppliers, the source of his/her goods, relationship with the customers, expiry date of commodities among others,community sensitization was also paramount important before food distribition.
